Our Philosophy

Compulsive and out-of-control behaviors involving substances, food and body image are the result of complex biologic, genetic, psychologic, and social disease processes.  Prolonged exposure to substances and behaviors also alter the physical brain and its reward, motivation and memory circuitry.  This doesn’t mean that you are helpless to it.  Brain changes can be treated and corrected with medication, therapy, nutrition, exercise and other integrative approaches that promote health and behavior change.

Treatment doesn’t have to be completely voluntary to be helpful!  We meet our patients and their support systems where they are in their own stage of change with education and a motivational approach.  Without treatment, addiction or disordered eating is progressive and can result in disability and premature death.

Whether you are seeking help for the first time or after multiple relapses it is important to remember that health and wellness is a path along a continuum and developing new insight and strategies promotes longer periods of remission over time in your recovery process.  As chronic diseases, addiction and eating disorder treatment is not curative, but past failure or relapse does not need to predict your future wellness.
